What is this place?

This is a forum. If you're under 30 that might need some explaining, and if you're over 30 you might need a minute to feel nostalgic.

Before social media flattened everything into a feed, the internet was organized around forums — message boards where people with shared interests would gather, post, reply, and build actual ongoing conversations. You'd have regulars. You'd have in-jokes. You'd have a thread about the best way to brew oolong that somehow went 47 pages deep. It was weird and good.

Platforms like phpBB powered millions of these communities through the 2000s — gaming forums, hobby forums, fan communities, local neighborhood boards. Then Facebook and Twitter came along and slowly convinced everyone that the feed was better. Faster, more dopamine, more reach.

It wasn't better. It was just louder.

We think there's something worth bringing back. So here we are.

How this works

Flarum (the software running this community) works exactly like those old forums, just with a better coat of paint.

Here's the basic structure:

Tags are like categories or rooms. Each tag has its own focus — Book Club, Tea Talk, Events, whatever. You can browse by tag or watch the whole community at once.

Discussions are threads. Someone starts one with a title and a post. Everyone else replies. The thread lives as long as people are interested in it. A good discussion from six months ago is still findable, still readable, still worth contributing to. Unlike a tweet that disappears into the void in 20 minutes.

Replies work exactly like you'd expect. You read, you respond. You can quote someone, mention them with @name, and they'll get a notification. Conversations stay together instead of fracturing across a feed.

Your profile is yours. You have a username, an avatar, a post history. People will start to recognize you. That's the whole idea — you become a regular, not just a visitor.

Notifications tell you when someone replies to a thread you're following, or mentions you directly. You're in control of what you follow — you're not at the mercy of an algorithm deciding what you see.

There's no like count on your profile. There's no follower count. There's no metric telling you whether you're popular enough. You just talk to people.

What's happening here

We're building this out over time, but here's what's already home:

Book Club — We pick a book as a community, read it on our own timeline, and gather here to talk about it. It runs slow and low pressure. Miss a month, catch up, jump in whenever. There's no quiz.

Tea Talk — What are you brewing? What's your current obsession? What did you just try that completely surprised you? This is the room for all of it — beginner questions welcome, deep nerd dives equally welcome.

Events & Markets — Where we'll be, when we'll be there, what's coming up. Get the heads up here before anywhere else.

Community Board — The general room. Recommendations, questions, things worth sharing, random conversations that don't fit anywhere else. This is the front porch.

Steeper Circle Lounge — For Steeper Circle members. A quieter space for people who are really here. Think of it as the back room.

More tags will grow as the community grows. If something belongs here that doesn't have a home yet, just say so.

Who runs this

Us. Literally us — the Moody Teas team. You might see John posting about sourcing a new tea or answering a question about an order. You might see Nora in the Book Club thread. This isn't a brand account managed by an agency. It's just the people behind the tea showing up the same way you are.

We'll moderate lightly. The bar is simple: be a person, not a bot. Disagree all you want, be decent while doing it.

One last thing

This will feel slow compared to social media at first. A day might pass between replies. That's not dead — that's the pace of a real conversation. Give it a week and you'll start to remember why this used to be so good.
